Direction signs include an arrow or arrows indicating the direction to be taken in order to proceed towards a selected route or destination or in a cardinal direction or compass direction.

The destination name may be given in text form or as an combination of symbol and text.

Route numbers given in brackets mean that the indicated route joins the route on which the driver is travelling some distance ahead.

Other signs in this class that do not display arrows provide guidance in the form of reassurance or confirmation (confirmation signs) that the driver is in fact on the chosen route , or travelling towards the intended destination, or has reached that destination or landmark, for example river names or geographical locations.

Symbols used on guidance signs and examples of signs in the various classes of guidance signs can be selected from the left column above.
